[Ottawa, May 29, 2023] – In order to address the issue of wound management through nursing education, Nurses Specialized in Wound, Ostomy and Continence Canada (NSWOCC) is thrilled to announce that its Wound Care Collaborator course has received accreditation from the prestigious Canadian Nurses Association (CNA). This first CNA accreditation of a wound management course in Canada solidifies NSWOCC's commitment to nursing excellence and patient outcomes and further establishes them as leaders in the field of wound, ostomy, and continence nursing in Canada.

 

The CNA Accreditation Program is renowned for upholding standards of quality for continuing professional development for nurses across Canada. It subjects all accredited programs and offerings to a meticulous quality assessment process, ensuring that learning and development initiatives meet the CNA's standards of excellence. By receiving this accreditation, the NSWOCC Wound, Ostomy and Continence Institute (WOC Institute) demonstrates the unwavering commitment to providing high-quality education and fostering nursing competence.

  • Anatomy and Physiology of the Integumentary System

  • Principles of Integumentary System Healing  

  • General principles of Integumentary / Wound Assessment and Management

  • Wound prevention, assessment, and management

  • Specific wound aetiologies (prevention, assessment, and management):

    • Acute and traumatic wounds (example: skin tears, lacerations, minor burns), with a focus on post fall wound care

    • Moisture associated skin damage (example: incontinence associated dermatitis, emersion foot)

    • Pressure injuries

    • Lower limb ulcers

    • Diabetic foot ulcers

    • Surgical wounds

    • Skin changes at life’s end

    • Wounds not healing in a predicted trajectory

  • Collaborative approaches when working with interprofessional teams

  • When to refer to a Wound Care Specialist

When you register, it is very important to enter your full name into the "name" field, as this will be the name reflected on your certificate.

  • You will be redirected to the Dual Code platform. If you don't have an existing account, click on the "Sign Up" or "Create Account" option.

  • Enter your email address (used as a username) and a password.

  • After creating your Dual Code account, you will be directed to the Wound, Ostomy and Continence (WOC) Institute course page.

Step 3: Purchase the course

  • On the course page, click "Purchase Course"

  • After clicking "purchase course", you will be presented with 3 payment options:

    • a) Pay for yourself only,

    • b) Pay for everyone in your organization at a group rate, or

    • c) Pay for a specific number of users.

  • ​Click on the "Checkout" button to proceed to the payment confirmation page.

  • After successful payment, you will gain access to the enrolled course.

  • Begin the course at your convenience by following the provided instructions.

  • Progress through the course content at your own pace.

  • Upon completion, you will automatically receive a certificate of completion.
