WOC Institute Pharmacist Wound, Ostomy and Continence Course Receives National Accreditation

The Wound, Ostomy and Continence (WOC) Institute is pleased to announce that the Pharmacist Wound, Ostomy and Continence Course has received national continuing professional development accreditation.
This course has been approved as an Accredited Group Learning Activity (Section 1) under the Maintenance of Certification (MOC) Program of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada and accredited by the University of Ottawa’s Office of Continuing Professional Development.
The course also meets the certification criteria of the College of Family Physicians of Canada and has been certified by the University of Ottawa’s Office of Continuing Professional Development for Mainpro+® credits.
Participants who complete the course can now earn:
Up to 100 Section 1 hours through the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada
Up to 100 certified Mainpro+® credits through the College of Family Physicians of Canada
This accreditation recognizes the course as a high-quality continuing education opportunity that supports pharmacists and other healthcare professionals in strengthening their knowledge of wound, ostomy, and continence care.
About the Course
The Pharmacist Wound, Ostomy and Continence Course is an online, on-demand course designed specifically for Canadian pharmacists who are interested in expanding their knowledge and strengthening their contributions to the care of individuals living with wound, ostomy, and continence concerns.
Developed by Canadian Nurses Association (CNA)-certified Nurses Specialized in Wound, Ostomy and Continence (NSWOCs®) in collaboration with pharmacists and physicians, the course equips pharmacists with evidence-informed foundational knowledge to support patient-centred, interprofessional care across healthcare settings.
Through this interactive program, pharmacists gain a deeper understanding of:
Skin health and wound healing principles
Common wound types and associated risk factors
Ostomy management and common complications
Continence challenges and strategies to protect skin health
Appropriate product selection and patient education
Learners develop practical skills to help differentiate wound, ostomy, continence, and skin issues, recommend management strategies, and support individuals in maintaining independence and self-management. The course also emphasizes collaboration with NSWOCs® and the broader healthcare team to improve patient outcomes.
Course Structure
The course is delivered as a 20-week, self-paced, interactive online program aligned with the Canadian Standards of Practice and Professional Competencies for pharmacists. Participants can expect to spend approximately 4–5 hours per week completing educational modules.
