  • Compare and contrast the mechanisms of action, indications, contraindications, benefits, limitations, and adverse effects of various types of debridement, including how to safely initiate or perform each of the following: 

    • Autolytic 

    • Enzymatic 

    • Mechanical 

    • Sharp/surgical 

    • Biological (maggot therapy) 

  • Outline and evaluate wound and patient-specific factors that influence the selection of debridement techniques, including comorbidities and differentiation of wound tissue types. 

  • Identify and integrate  pain management, infection control, and patient-centred care principles during debridement. 

  • Apply evidence-based guidelines and standards of practice in the selection, implementation, and documentation of debridement strategies.
