The Community Paramedic Skin and Wound Care Course is a state-of-the-art interactive online course designed for community paramedics who have an interest in improving care for individuals living with acute and chronic wounds. 


Course Structure 

The course is a self-paced, interactive online course based on current evidence-based practice. It is designed to be completed in 12 weeks. Students can expect to spend

4-5 hours per week completing course content.

Learning Objectives


By the end of this self-paced online course, participants will be able to: 


  • Describe the anatomy and physiology of the skin and the phases of wound healing and identify factors that promote or delay healing. 

  • Explain the comprehensive patient and wound assessment. 

  • Develop evidence-informed wound care plans tailored to individual patient needs and wound management goals, incorporating appropriate dressing selection, moisture balance, infection control, and pain management strategies. 

  • Identify and manage common wound types, such as skin tears, pressure injuries, diabetic foot ulcers, venous and arterial leg ulcers, and surgical wounds. 

  • Identify risk factors and differentiate between local and systemic wound infections to implement appropriate evidence-informed treatment strategies. 

  • Discuss legal, ethical, and professional considerations in wound care, including documentation, informed consent, scope of practice, and interprofessional collaboration.  


Upon completion, learners will be equipped with the foundational knowledge required to confidently address wound management challenges in clinical practice and collaborate with the interprofessional health care team.
