Identify the legal and professional scope of practice considerations related to wound debridement, including consent, documentation, liability risks, and regulatory or institutional policies governing each type of debridement.
Define wound debridement and explain its role in the wound healing process.
Compare and contrast the mechanisms of action, indications, contraindications, benefits, limitations, and adverse effects of various types of debridement, including how to safely initiate or perform each of the following: Autolytic, Enzymatic, Mechanical, Sharp/surgical, Biological (maggot therapy).
Outline and evaluate wound and patient-specific factors that influence the selection of debridement techniques, including comorbidities and differentiation of wound tissue types.
Identify and integrate pain management, infection control, and patient-centred care principles during debridement.
Apply evidence-based guidelines and standards of practice in the selection, implementation, and documentation of debridement strategies.
