The Continence Management Course provides an opportunity for nurses and healthcare professionals to deepen their understanding and clinical judgment in the assessment and management of urinary and fecal incontinence. Emphasis is placed on comprehensive assessments, understanding medical tests and diagnoses, identifying risk factors and differentiating between types of incontinence to implement appropriate, evidence-based, patient-centered interventions to manage continence issues in the adult populations.
Upon completion, learners will be equipped with the foundational knowledge required to confidently address continence challenges in clinical practice and collaborate with the interprofessional health care team.

Learning Objectives
By the end of this self-paced online course, participants will be able to:

Explain the anatomy, physiology, and types of incontinence, along with common risk factors across diverse populations.

Integrate findings from advanced assessments and medical diagnoses to develop and implement individualized nursing care plans to provide evidence-informed patient care, including patient education, conservative management strategies, and promotion of skin integrity.

Discuss appropriate product selection, including catheters and body worn absorbent products, based on clinical indications, best practice guidelines, and individualized patient factors such as anatomy, mobility, and risk of infection.

Describe diagnostic tests, surgical and conservative options to manage incontinence, including when to refer to specialists.

Apply ethical, legal, and professional standards in continence care, including documentation, informed consent, and collaborative practice.
